# iMessage

> Chat with your UltraClaw AI assistant through iMessage. No app install — it works in the Messages app you already use.

# iMessage

Your UltraClaw AI agent lives in the Messages app on your iPhone, iPad, and Mac. No app to download, no account to create — just open your texts and start talking.

<Tip>
  iMessage is available on **Pro and Dedicated** plans. Pro users share a line; Dedicated users get their own number.
</Tip>

## How It Works

On **Pro**, your agent shares a dedicated UltraClaw number — inbound messages are routed to your personal agent. On **Dedicated**, your agent has its own private phone number exclusively yours. Either way, when you text that number your message goes directly to your agent in the cloud, and the reply comes back as a native iMessage bubble.

From your perspective, it looks and feels like texting a real person. Blue bubbles, read receipts, typing indicators — the full iMessage experience.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Sign up at ultraclaw.ai">
    Enter your phone number during registration. This tells your agent where to reach you.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Your agent texts you">
    Within seconds, you'll receive an iMessage from your new AI assistant. No action needed on your part.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Start chatting">
    Reply like you would to any contact. Ask questions, give instructions, share photos — your agent handles it all.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## No App Required

Unlike other AI assistants that require you to open a separate app or browser tab, UltraClaw meets you in the Messages app you already use every day. Your conversations sit right alongside your chats with friends and family.

This means:

* **No context switching** — stay in the same app you already have open
* **Notifications just work** — iMessage notifications you're already used to
* **Siri integration** — "Hey Siri, text my UltraClaw agent" works out of the box
* **Works on all Apple devices** — iPhone, iPad, Mac, even Apple Watch

## Media Support

Your agent can receive and process:

* **Images** — share screenshots, photos, receipts, documents
* **PDFs and documents** — attach files directly in the chat
* **Voice messages** — send voice memos and your agent will transcribe and respond

<Note>
  iMessage has a file size limit of \~100MB per attachment. For larger files, use the [Web Chat](/channels/webchat) or share via [Google Drive](/integrations/google-drive).
</Note>

## Plans and Phone Numbers

<Tabs>
  <Tab title="Pro Plan">
    On the **Pro** plan, your agent uses a shared phone number. You can text your agent anytime (inbound), and your agent can reply to your messages. This is the best setup for most personal users.

    * You text the agent → it replies ✓
    * Agent sends scheduled messages to you ✓
    * Dedicated phone number ✗ (shared line)
  </Tab>

  <Tab title="Dedicated Plan">
    On the **Dedicated** plan, your agent gets its **own unique phone number** that belongs only to you. This unlocks outbound messaging — your agent can text you proactively without you reaching out first.

    * You text the agent → it replies ✓
    * Agent sends scheduled messages to you ✓
    * Your own dedicated phone number ✓
    * Proactive outbound messages ✓

    <Tip>
      A dedicated number is great for scheduled morning briefings, proactive reminders, and automated check-ins. See [Dedicated Line](/plans/dedicated-line) for more details.

## Best Practices

* **Be conversational** — talk to your agent like you'd talk to a human assistant. Full sentences work better than keywords.
* **Use threads** — if you're discussing multiple topics, separate them into different messages so your agent can track context cleanly.
* **Share screenshots** — instead of describing what you see on screen, just screenshot it and send. Your agent has vision capabilities.
* **Pin the contact** — pin your agent's number in Messages so it's always at the top of your chat list.

## Limitations

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="Message length limits">
    iMessage splits very long messages into multiple SMS segments. Your agent handles this gracefully, but responses over \~2,000 characters may arrive as multiple bubbles.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Group chats">
    iMessage group chats are not supported. Your agent communicates with you in a 1:1 conversation only.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Android / non-Apple devices">
    iMessage is Apple-only. If you're on Android, use [Telegram](/channels/telegram) or [WhatsApp](/channels/whatsapp) as your primary channel instead.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Rich formatting">
    iMessage does not support markdown or rich text. Your agent's responses are plain text. For formatted output (tables, code blocks, etc.), use [Web Chat](/channels/webchat).
